lyrics

If you’ve ever wondered what bears the weight of a tired heart
I would say this, I would say this:

This time last year, you were sitting there. I was surprised by your vacant eyes, even though we weren't over yet. We took a full month to implode, then I was staring at the road away from you — away from there. There was a little bit of circling around each other but you couldn't say the words. (Why couldn't you ever say the words?) And why THIS story? 'Cause I was open — I had spoken it out loud to the clouds and they had heard me, but they only gave me you, and there were other things to do —

Well I've never run into a fire or been to war (except in metaphor) but I still know bravery. I do not want to never know, do not want to sit and let these chances go away — go away again. And in the middle of a phone call conversation: all the things that aren't said. But dear GOD, boy, we are thoroughbred. We are born MIGHTY. And in the morning, we will rise up. We will walk amongst the tall trees and believe that we belong there. We will run into the blue. We will only speak the truth.

If you’ve ever…

So come on, you! We will run wild, find worlds beneath all that we can see on the shiny shiny surface. All that is dark will be made light. We will drag the scorching day into the night to see through the glare. We will listen to the words that fall out around us, furtive glances that we steal, and know that everything is real and everything is fiction.
Because in each moment we are only alive, lonely in a large crowd
holding hands with strangers — we’re all strangers after all — and we only rise to fall.

If you’ve ever....
